Frequently Asked Questions

How big of a tree can you move?
We have a 50 inch tree spade which is made to move a 5 inch caliper tree. Depending upon the type of tree, we sometimes can move up to a 6 inch caliper tree.

What does “caliper” mean?
Caliper is the distance across the trunk of the tree. Typically, a tree ’s caliper is measured approximately one foot off of the ground.

When is the best time of the year to move a tree?
We use a special product that allows us to successfully move trees all year long. When the leaves are on, we use the product mixed with water allowing us to slow drip the mixture around the tree ’s root system. This process feeds nutrients to the tree. After about four days of feeding, the tree is ready to move. We have been very successful in moving trees for several years using this method. We feel one time works as well as the other.

How should I care for my newly planted tree?
Water trees once a week about 10 to 20 gallons of water per tree, unless we have one inch or more of rain that week. In this case, watering my be skipped that week. Water slowly so water soaks into ground around base of tree. Water trees through November of this year and start watering in spring next year through summer and fall again.

For Shade and Ornamental trees, use 3 tablespoons of Miracle-Gro in a gallon of water, mix and pour around base of each tree every three weeks. For all Evergreen trees, use Miracid in place of Miracle-Gro with same directions. Use Miracle-Gro or Miracid for one year after planting.

Also, it is very important to place hardwood mulch around trees to retain moisture and encourage tree growth.

What are your hours?
We do not have set hours of operation; however, we have a standing invitation for our customers to wander our farm. Please call and let us know when you would like to look at our trees. Either of us will be glad to meet with you and answer any other questions you may have.
